NYC Casino Workers Seek To Halt Online Casino Legislation

NY State Flag IconNearly 700 Resort World casino employees in the Empire State have signed a letter rebutting Sen. Joe Addabbo’s push for legislation to allow online casino gambling.

The letter read, “We find it appalling that you are pushing legislation that would hurt workers like us and our industry to benefit a handful of companies who are seeking massive profits at our expense.”

The union letter also stated that when anyone visits a racino, a VLT parlor, or a casino, they support the jobs of everyone employed there, whether it be the cook, the dealer, or the security team.

Sen Addabbo has received numerous campaign contributions from iGaming companies totaling $77,100. Addabbo defended his iGaming bill, stating that online card games and online sports betting are inevitable.

New Casino Moving In

New York will award another brick-and-mortar casino license for the city in the next year or so. Several entrepreneurs have already partnered with casino conglomerates to win the license.

NY Mets owner Steve Cohen and rap mogul Jay Z are just a couple of the business people looking to obtain the last NYC casino license. Due to the lengthy application process, the New York State Gaming Commission has told applicants that the license likely won’t be awarded until late 2025.

NYC Online Casino Gambling

Currently, NY online casinos are allowed to operate as no state or federal laws make them illegal. Popular sites like CasinoMAX and Roaring21 accept players from NY and offer classic table games, online slots, specialty games, and more.

While some legit online casinos have already opted out of the NY online gambling territory, others have chosen to stay until further litigation is passed. Most sites that still accept NY players are located outside of the USA and licensed by trusted gaming regulators.
