The National Trade Associate recently released revenue figures for USA commercial casinos in 2023, and the data confirms that US casinos experienced their best year ever.
According to the American Gaming Association (AGA), casino revenue is up 10% from 2022, a record-setting year. In the USA, commercial casinos are regulated by states, and the federal government regulates tribal casinos. Revenue figures from tribal casinos will be released later this year, and the AGA expects that total revenue will exceed $110 billion overall for 2023.
Bill Miller, the president and CEO of the AGA, stated, “From the traditional casino experience to online options, American adults’ demand for gaming is at an all-time high.” Miller also said, “Inflation was high, uncertainty was in the air. Forecasters couldn’t agree what these challenges might do to discretionary income.”
Jane Bokunewicz, director of the Lloyd Levenson Institute at New Jersey’s Stockton University, said legal sports betting is new enough that many gamblers could play those odds while watching their budget. She also noted that sports betting is a new experience for many US gamblers, and with low wagers, more players are likely to bet despite their monthly budget.
In-person casino gambling was the main source of income for casinos, with slots bringing in $35.51 billion, table games bringing in $10.31 billion, and domestic sportsbooks generating $10.31 billion. Internet gambling also brought in $6.17 billion in revenue. 31 of the 35 states with commercial casinos saw an increase in revenue for 2023.
Are 18+ Online Casinos Legal In The USA?
There are no US gambling states that have passed laws concerning offshore casinos; however, there are a few states that have asked some sports betting and casino sites to stop accepting their players.
Online casinos have been operating outside the states since the early 1990s, becoming the industry standard for many players nationwide. With user-friendly banking options, lucrative sign-up bonuses, and more gameplay options, many US players prefer online sources to in-person casinos.
What Casino Games Can I Play Online?
Regarding online gameplay options, 18+ online casinos have more to offer than their domestic counterparts. Popular online wagering games include blackjack, roulette, slots, video poker, craps, baccarat, poker, and live dealer games.
Online sites host large slot libraries and multiple variations of popular casino games. With software that powers the game odds, online games typically accept lower bets. However, the more you risk, the more you can win.
